Whether the world's first knitting machine for ribbed stitches, the first digital lookbook for retailers and fans, or the personalization of underwear. Zimmerli is constantly reinventing itself for customers - and can thus look back on a 150-year tradition.

Pauline Zimmerli-Bäuerlin (1829-1914) is not only the founder and namesake of the Zimmerli company, but also the creator of an entire industry through her inventions.

She further developed Lamb's hosiery knitting machines in that her invention solved two problems: ribbed, elastic underwear could now be produced by machine and in significantly higher quantities. Despite industrialization, the quality of the knitwear was exceptional, so that the samples shown at the 1878 World's Fair in Paris caused a great stir. The excellent wearing comfort, which had previously been the preserve of a handful of wealthy connoisseurs, could now be enjoyed by a much wider clientele.

Digitization for a better experience - despite social distancing

Even 150 years later, Zimmerli continues to reinvent itself to be closer to customers and their needs. With the lookbook of the fall/winter season 2021, Zimmerli has revolutionized the shopping experience. The newly virtual, web-based lookbook allows not only retailers but also Zimmerli fans to experience, pre-order and even personalize the collection designed in Aarburg exclusively well before the season starts. Virtualization allows the sensory perception of the high-quality merchandise and at the same time protects the environment. In times of a pandemic, the reinterpretation of the lookbook also simplifies the usual collection presentations in the industry: Zimmerli and the customers are close, despite the extraordinary situation and social distancing.

Proximity to customers and a focus on customer wishes was already practiced in the 20th century with regular, individual customer visits around the globe.
